If you don’t know about Iris Apfel, you should. She is a ninety year old Icon that walks the streets of New York in her large circle specs. The better to see the world through—I suppose.
When she was young she begged a merchant to order her a pair of jeans in her size. When he refused, she returned several times and hounded him until he did. Which she promptly wore with a turban and large hoop earrings. That was in the forties and some say she made jeans fashionable. She hasn’t slowed in her determination to set the bar and make a mark.
Now you may be asking, what kind of Icon is she…Well, I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of Icon she isn’t. She’s got her hands in everything and she seems to have picked up even more of a fan base in her later years. She is best known for her fashion—a healthy dose of thrifting and high end—and her culture eclectic interiors. She is a creator, a muse, a story teller! Like I said, if you don’t know about her, you should. So go learn more. Included is a video of Iris talking about her style and textile company (Old World Weavers), titled, "Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel, Peabody Essex Museum"
